BELSTA Slippers: The Complete Guide to Our Hand-Stitched House Slippers

Everything you need to know about BELSTA slippers — how they're hand-stitched in our family workshop in Ukraine, what they're made of, how the open-toe slide fits, US/EU sizing (including narrow), care, and how to order in the US with shipping from Los Angeles.

BELSTA slippers are open-toe house slippers hand-stitched in our family workshop in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Ukraine, and shipped to US customers from Los Angeles. If you've just discovered the brand — or you're trying to work out which pair is right for you — this guide covers everything: how the slippers are made, what they're made of, how they fit, how to look after them, and how to buy them in the US.

What makes BELSTA slippers different

Most slippers sold in the US are glued together on a production line and start to flatten, crack, or peel after one winter. BELSTA slippers are built differently. Every pair is cut and stitched by hand in a workshop our family has run since 2006. The upper is sewn — not glued — to a non-slip sole that keeps its shape, which is why we say a pair is built to last four to five seasons, not one.

A few things every pair has in common:

  • Hand-stitched construction — the upper is sewn to the sole, so there's no glue line to fail.
  • Non-slip sole — a firm, textured outsole that grips hardwood, tile, and laminate and won't flatten or crack.
  • Breathable footbeds — woven textile, velour, or ticking, depending on the model, so feet stay dry.
  • Real materials — velour, linen, denim, chambray, and woven textile, finished with faux-leather trim.
  • One honest price — every pair is $29, with free US shipping over $40.

The BELSTA slide: why our slippers are open-toe

Every pair we make is an open-toe slide: a wide band over the instep, no back, open at the toe. It's the classic house-slipper silhouette in much of Europe, and there are good reasons for it. A slide is the easiest slipper to step into and out of — no heel to fight, nothing to pull on. The open toe keeps air moving, so it works from the first cold mornings of fall straight through summer, and the firm sole makes it a proper shoe for hardwood and tile rather than a sock with a bottom.

If you're used to closed, fluffy slippers, think of these as the pair you actually wear all day — from morning coffee to taking the trash out — rather than the pair that lives by the bed.

Materials: what the slippers are made of

The range is small on purpose — 21 models — but the materials vary, and that's the easiest way to pick a pair.

  • Embossed velour — soft, warm, and plush underfoot, with a low wedge sole. The pom-pom models (Pom-Pom, Noir, Champagne, Midnight) and the quilted Vanity are velour.
  • Linen and woven textile — the most breathable option, ideal for warm homes and summer. See the Cotton, Tweed, Bloom, and the men's Tobacco.
  • Denim and chambray — sturdy, casual, and cool underfoot: Denim, Strap, Chambray.
  • Faux-leather details — trim, piping, T-straps, and panels that keep the edges crisp and the slippers looking new.

BELSTA slippers for women

The women's collection is the larger half of the range: sixteen models from velour pom-pom slides to embroidered linen. Highlights include the Pom-Pom Slippers in burgundy velour, the all-black Noir Slippers, the blue-and-white Porcelain Slippers with an adjustable strap, and the breathable linen Cotton Slippers with a hand-embroidered cotton branch. Five velour models — Champagne, Midnight, Noir, Chambray, and Pom-Pom — also come in a narrow fit, which is rare in slippers and worth knowing about if regular slippers always feel loose on you.

Sizing: how the slippers fit

Our slippers are made on European lasts, so sizes are listed as both US and EU. The most reliable way to choose is by foot length, not by your usual sneaker size — measure once, match it in the table, and you're done. Most models are true to size; where a model runs large or small, it's stated on the product page and in the size selector.

How to measure your foot

  1. Place a sheet of paper against a wall and stand on it, heel to the wall.
  2. Mark the tip of your longest toe and measure from the wall to the mark.
  3. Match that length to the Foot length column. Measure in the evening, when feet are at their largest.

Between two sizes? Choose the larger one — slippers should sit comfortably, never snug. Sizes in the chart are foot length, not insole length.

Narrow or medium? On the five narrow-fit models you'll see two widths per size. Choose Narrow if slippers usually slip at the heel or feel roomy across the instep; choose Medium for a standard fit.

How to care for your slippers

All our slippers are hand-wash only: cool water, a little mild detergent, a soft brush on the footbed if it needs it, then rinse and air-dry away from direct heat. Don't put them in the washing machine or dryer — the heat and tumbling are what break down glued slippers, and there's no reason to test a stitched pair. Velour brushes back up once dry; linen and denim simply soften with wear.
